Service Terms

Types of editing services

I offer line editing, copy editing, and developmental feedback. See my pricing information to learn more about what each type of editing/feedback includes.

Target clientele

My target clientele includes independent authors who don't have the budget for a formally trained professional editor (see "Qualifications" for more information).

I am happy to negotiate a price range that works for your budget while still allowing me to contribute to my household living expenses.

What projects I'll take on

At this time, I offer editing services for fiction only. Manuscripts may be of almost any genre, but I am most familiar with the conventions of the science fiction, cozy mystery, and romance genres.

I prefer projects with little to no NSFW content, and no gratuitously violent/bloody scenes. I will not edit erotica or paranormal/supernatural stories. I reserve the right to decline a project for any reason.

My qualifications

I am an amateur freelance editor, which means I have not completed formal training to be an editor. However, I have been editing fiction (and nonfiction) for over 10 years on a casual basis, and have improved my ability to the point where I feel comfortable charging for my time & services.

By contracting my services, you acknowledge this fact.

Policies

Contract

Before work begins, both I and the client will sign a contract outlining the amount of work to be completed, the agreed-upon compensation, and a payment schedule. These are all negotiable before the contract is signed.

Payment

I typically require payment in full before I return all edited work. I am happy to negotiate a payment schedule and to return edited work piecemeal if that's what you can afford.

Please do not send funds before the contract is signed and an invoice is sent. This is to protect both you (the client) and me (the editor) from misunderstandings and fraudulent charges/charge-backs.

Refunds

I only offer full refunds before work begins. Partial refunds may be given after work has begun for exceptional circumstances only.

Holding fee

When I have a queue, first-time clients may be required to pay a $25 holding fee to claim a spot in the queue. This amount will count toward your payment for services rendered and is non-refundable.
